[edit] Derbies
Like the season, the derbies were nothing short of a disaster for sunderland apart from an easy 2-0 victory over middlesbrough, even though they got sunderland back with a 3-0 thumping at the stadium of light. The derby disasters came as newcastle completed an easy double of them, winning 3-2 at st james' park, then cruising 4-1 at sunderland and setting the scene for shearer's last ever goal for the cartoon army.
