The 2007/2008 season was well known for being Roy Keane's first season as a Premier League manager and his second at the Stadium of Light. The main achievement of this season was that Sunderland secured their place in the Premier League for the 2008/2009 season finishing 15th, avoiding the embarassment of relegation for a third premier league season in a row. A large event of the season was also that Sunderland smashed their transfer record by paying £9 million for the Scottish international goalkeeper Craig Gordon.
