[edit] Sunderland history
first taking over in 1989, Bob Muarry had made his money through selling Kitchens. At first he was very popular at sunderland as his fans and finance moved sunderland into the Stadium of Light, and things became successful as sunderland finished 7th two seasons in a row. After this point Murray became extremely unpopular with sunderland fans as sunderland was landed in massive debts of over £30 million and sunderland were relegated. Mick McCarthy engineered sunderland's return to the premiership, however Bob Murray had planned the season for relegation and handed McCarthy only £5 million to spend on players and all the money coming into the club would be used to pay off the debt and perhaps go towards his wages. The sunderland fans had, had enough with Murray and demanded him out everytime the club lost. Eventually after enduring an attack from a fan, Murray was overcome by the pressure and resigned in summer 2006. Niall Quinn and his Consortium bought the club for £10 million.
