Danny Collins (born August 6, 1980 in Chester, England) is a Welsh footballer currently playing for Stoke City and the Wales national football team as a defender. Danny Collins featured for Sunderland A.F.C. from 2004-2009, where he played over 100 league games.
He joined Sunderland from Chester City for a Six-Figure fee in 2004, Following promotion to the Premiership for the 2005-2006 season, Sunderland signed several additional players and Collins found himself out of the first team squad early in the season. He later worked his way into the side but Sunderland endured a nightmare campaign and were comfortably relegated. Collins started the 2006-07 season as first choice defender at Sunderland, but was dropped four games into the season after being booed by a section of the crowd following a mistake in the previous game against Plymouth Argyle. Collins later regained his place following the arrival of manager Roy Keane & ended the season as first place Left-Back.
In the 2007/2008 season Seaon Danny Collins reached over the 100 caps mark, continued to feature during the 2008/2009 season. Collins made himself a fan favourite at Sunderland during his time there, causing many fans to joke him as a brazil international due to some of his impressive defensive performances. At the beginning of the 2009/2010 season though, Steve Bruce sold Danny Collins to Stoke City for an undisclosed fee.
