Darren Ward (born 11 May 1974 in Worksop) is a Welsh professional football goalkeeper currently playing for Sunderland. He was signed by Niall Quinn as back-up for then number one Ben Alnwick, but when Alnwick was failing to impress manager Roy Keane, Keane made Darren the first choice keeper. One match which will stand out is when Southampton visited The Stadium of Light which Ward made a top-class save, In his post-match interview then Southampton manager George Burley described Ward's save was as good as Gordon Banks. Ward made his Premier League debut in December 2007 against Derby County keeping a cleen sheet and also winning 1-0. In January 2008 Ward rejected a move to Scottish giants Rangers.
