Daryl Murphy (born March 15, 1983, in Waterford, Ireland) is an Irish football player who is currently playing for Sunderland as a striker who can also play on the left-wing. Murphy who was signed by Mick McCarthy for £100,000 from Irish club Waterford United, where he was prolific by scoring 39 goals in 55 games. His first season with Sunderland was largely disappointing where he was sent out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, though when he returned to Sunderland he scored an equalizing goal against Tottenham Hotspur. The 2006/2007 season was a far better one for Daryl, he scored 10 goals in the process and made himself a first-team regular under manager Roy Keane.

In 2007, Daryl was linked with a move to Queens Park Rangers and was very close to sealing a move to Loftus Road but later rejected a move because he wanted to stay and fight for his place at The Stadium of Light.

He scored three goals in the 2007/2008 season, though his form was somewhat dissapointing in the 2008/2009 season where despite numerous appearances, he failed to score in any competitive game.
