Michael Gray (born August 3, 1974 in Sunderland, United Kingdom), sometimes known as Mickey Gray, is an English football player who plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers as a full-back. Gray was born and grew in the city of Sunderland itself and he joined Sunderland as a youth player, soon breaking through to the first team and making his Sunderland debut during the 1992/1993 season. He played in various positions including Stiker and in Left-Midfield. Gray eventually became a Sunderland regular during the 1996/1997 season as a Left-Back and stayed with the club after their relegation. Gray suffered heart-break during the infamous 1998 play-off final in which he missed the decisive spot kick in the penalty shoot-out with Charlton Athletic which cost them promotion to the premier league, but that did not affect him as the next year he was called up into the England squad for a friendly with Bulgaria after storming to the first divison title with sunderland.
