Paul McShane born (January 6, 1986 in Kilpeddar, County Wicklow, Ireland) is an Irish footballer who plays in the position of centre back, currently playing for Hull City. He featured for Sunderland A.F.C. from 2007-2009.
Sunderland History
Edit
After making 32 appearances for West Brom in the 2006/2007 season, McShane signed for Sunderland for £1.5 million the summer of 2007. He produced an outstanding debut performance against Spurs on the opening day of the season as Sunderland won 1-0, and for many of his performances he has been solid. However, he has made horrific errors which have resulted in free kicks which lead to goals, penalties, own goals, and the failure to stop James Milners sloppy cross which robbed sunderland a deserved win over Newcastle United at the stadium of light.
Since 2008 he has been simply reduced to a backup player and sub as Jonny Evans took his role in the team. When Phil Bardsley was injured ahead of the Tyne Wear Derby in April, McShane was giving a chance to shine for the first time since losing his place in January. Although several factors contributed to Sunderland's 2-0 defeat, McShane put in a calamatious performance that in many fan's eyes has signalled the end of his Sunderland career. Whilst he stayed on for another year, he only made one more league appearance for Sunderland as a substitute against Aston Villa in the 2008/2009 season.
At the beginning of the 2009/2010 season, mcshane moved onto hull on a full time deal. Having spent half the previous season on loan for them.
